colder than fargo started in the winter of 2003,three men, three instruments one idea.that idea being to make music that is painfully slow and melancholic, yet inside the shambolic structure lies an innocent beauty.ctf showcased these tunes in various coffee shops around denver.as time progressed a brave but bitter attempt at their first album”IN THE BASEMENT OF THE CHAPEL”laid rest the way too ambitious thought that they could carry on with the notion that they were gonna be the next low! the next phase in the evolution, was to go in a more pop/rock direction and start playing some venues where the fans could drink!!a years hard gigging and practice paved the way for the”BLUE”ep,which was very well percieved by the denver press.the BLUE ep inspired ctf to see how far they could take this,so a time holed up in the rehearsal room and with no musical agenda they wrote 12 songs and recorded all 12 in one weekend and mixed them all in a second weekend.with a very tight budget, some well rehearsed songs and a respect for the true indie”DOGS N TUMBLEWEEDS”was born. during the mixing sessions an idea came up to add another member just another step in the evolution nothing heavy just a bit of spice, thats when the final piece was added and ctf was finally born!that final piece came in the form of andy gross, fresh back from the songwriting scene in nashville.andy bought with him a true sense of songmanship,an abilaty to play just about everything at once and a real skill of losing just about anything at once! this led on to phase three, the writing of”GENTLEMEN PLEASE!”.with all four members having completely different influences the melting together of both british and american music has led to one of denvers best kept secrets.GENTLEMEN PLEASE! is pulsating positivty in a world where the man wants you to believe in fear and war.the album has its own way of saying”...you know kids its gonna be alright”only we can put it all right,it may take a fist fight, shadows may fall, you may wear your soul out along the way but out of the dark we will go into the light….................watch out for phase four!!!
